Pip Millett

Live concert at Lille Vega
November 28, 2022

We bought tickets to Pip Millett after we’ve heard her song “Hard Life” which she released on July the 7th 2021. It was a pure coincidence that the song entered our lives, and one that we are grateful for, because it led us to experience her music that she performed in Copenhagen with her band on a starry November night.

And what is there to tell other than it was an absolutely fantastic concert. She radiated positive energy and engaged with the audience by being honest about feeling tired and that the drink she held in her hand being incredibly strong. The most poignant moment for us was when she opened up about her “Deeper Dark” (fra EP’en Lost In June), which she wrote when she went through depression and anxiety. Both because the lyrics were beautiful and heartfelt, but the performance and expression of emotions were 1:1. It was without a doubt a truth that she chose to perform here, an openness and vulnerability she has made into a strength (we hope). Accompanied by her magnificent band, there were no errors in the music I hope was what they intended to perform, for the reason that it was fantastic. A harmony between the players in the arena, a passion for music, and a love for the soul breathing that happens so often in Little Vega, and this evening was without a doubt one of these.

That Little Vega has been allowed to have them on tour, fits better than that they have been allowed to play at Little Vega. You can feel the love, you can feel the energy, and there is no doubt that we have to do with players who are passionate about their craft, because of the clear passion they put into their work. And there is a need for people like them. People who sense the audience, not when they need one to perform for, but when everything falls into place.

The harmonisation with her band was effortless, streamlined and graceful. You could feel the comfort among the audience, and even hope that all the band members have experienced the same peace. That they have experienced joy, and not stress, to complete and perform their art. That they still now, at the end of their tour, with two venues left, still feel a love for what they breathe out and not have it transformed to something it shouldn’t be.

We cannot imagine how it is to transform passion into hatred and transform the colorful into toneless gray remnants. Let the passion ring deeply, and far, let the echo forever fall into the valley, and live until it’s last breath. Let it never fade out, and let the flame rekindle.

Life will forever live, die and arise again. But for these musicians, let this process be uniform and recognizable, let them see it at the beginning, and not at the end. Let them feel the height and rebirth while they live, and can use it in their art. Let them thrive on the bittersweet aftertaste of mortality, and play the notes of the strings until their last days, for here they have found their calling.

Let them live, and let them breathe.

It is always an honor to see a person in one’s element. To see where they feel at home, not necessarily on a stage, but with their instrument (whether it be their voice, string instrument or their ears). Something that feels like an extension of themselves. That is what characterises someone who loves their craft. Those who love what they create, what they translate. Seeing that they translate something, whether it is ‘nothing’, their thoughts, feelings, experiences, air, earth, fire, water, drought, rain, or thunder. They translate these feelings and experiences into music. They translate these experiences into something beautiful, into poetry. They stand with their hands, with something they have created out of nothing and turned it into something beautiful. Something that touches the hearts of those who listen.

Let the music speak for itself, and listen to her and the band live, because you will not be disappointed.
